About the instructor: Joy was born, raised, and educated in the Southern part of the Philippines, where she got her bachelor’s degree, majoring in Communication Arts in Filipino, and was a Language Teacher in a public school before moving here in the USA. Since then, she became a sub-contractor (and sometimes an independent contractor) to Language Services companies on the East Coast, serving military officers as well as Foreign Service Officers. She believes that language is a tool to understand a culture, and culture is what connects people.
Welcome to Tagalog Beginner 4 class! You’ve come a long way in your Tagalog language journey, and this course is designed to help you continue building on the foundations laid in the previous levels.
In Tagalog Beginner 4, the emphasis will be on refining your conversational skills, with a deeper dive into speaking, listening, and comprehension. While still engaging in interactive activities like role-plays and dialogues, you will now focus more on using Tagalog in real-life situations. This course will introduce you to more nuanced grammar concepts, including additional verb aspects, complex sentence structures, and common idiomatic expressions.
A key goal of this class is to further develop your ability to express thoughts and ideas with more fluency and spontaneity. You will practice handling more detailed conversations, such as sharing experiences, making comparisons, giving instructions, and offering advice. We will also continue to work on enhancing your pronunciation, helping you sound more natural and authentic when communicating.
By the end of this course, you will have moved closer to achieving the 4 proficiency level. You will be able to participate in everyday conversations with greater confidence and ease, formulating longer and more detailed responses. Your vocabulary will expand, and your ability to convey emotions, preferences, and opinions in Tagalog will improve significantly.
As always, learning a language is a gateway to understanding the culture it represents. In this class, you will not only gain language skills but also explore more cultural contexts and traditions, deepening your connection with the rich heritage of the Philippines. Let’s continue this journey together as we advance our skills and deepen our understanding of Tagalog!
