(On Zoom) Low-intermediate Mandarin Mandarin Saturday 11:15am to 12:15pm PST (November 16th to December 21st) Instructor: Xin
This class will meet online from November 16th to December 21st.
About the instructor: Xin holds MA degree in Chinese Language Pedagogy from Indiana University at Bloomington where he taught Integrated Chinese Courses. As a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese with more than 10 years of language teaching experience and a linguistic and pedagogical researcher, he believes that pedagogical approaches such as linguistic comparison and Task-Based Language Teaching can empower language learners to achieve a high language proficiency.
About the class: The Low Intermediate Mandarin class is designed for students who have acquired a basic understanding of the Chinese language and are ready to build upon their foundational skills. This level of instruction focuses on expanding vocabulary, improving conversational proficiency, and enhancing overall comprehension of written and spoken Mandarin.
In this class, students continue to develop their grasp of essential grammar structures and sentence patterns, enabling them to construct more complex and nuanced sentences. Emphasis is placed on the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through interactive activities, dialogues, and practical exercises, students are encouraged to apply their knowledge in real-life scenarios, fostering a more practical and communicative language proficiency.
The curriculum often introduces cultural elements, helping students gain insights into Chinese customs, traditions, and social norms. Topics may include everyday situations, travel, shopping, and basic social interactions. As students progress, they may explore more advanced cultural themes and engage in discussions about current events in China.
Overall, the Low Intermediate Mandarin class provides a supportive and interactive environment for students to further enhance their Mandarin language skills, preparing them for more advanced language study or enabling them to communicate more confidently in various real-world situations.
